Mr José Ríos started his business adventure in the middle of the seventies, exchanging varied fabrics in fairs and local markets. After many years of dedication and experience in the textile field, he begins to make his own designs a reality, making his way in the world of fashion firstly and later in fabrics for upholstery and home decoration.
1st textile enterprise in Andalusia
Rioma was born in the decade of the seventies. The vocation for business of its promoter, Mr José Ríos, as well as his passion for fabrics made it possible. The history of this company is linked to Montilla, a town in the south of Spain where its founder was born.
It was there where he opened a market that was unknown in the region until then. Rioma was innovator in the textile sector. It was the first textile enterprise in Andalusia, having a staff made up of designers, salespeople and manual workers.
During the first years, Rioma consolidates one of the hallmarks of the company: our classic and modern floral printed fabrics. Our first fabrics were the chintz, which set the trend in curtains, with shining patterns available in a multicoloured range. The second most popular were the collections made in sailcloth Neón, a fabric created by Rioma which was the best seller around the world from the eighties to the first decade of the 21st Century. At the same time, rustic fabrics were developed too, standing out the ones known as kilim, ethnic-inspired creations,
frequently ordered for upholstery because of being a very resistant fabric. They were awarded in one of the most important textile fair around the world, Heimtextil Frankfurt. Later, another great success of the firm was the Baghera, known nowadays as suede, the best seller fabric for upholstery and fashion design around the world. In the nineties, the exporting activity of Rioma is extensively developed in the European market: the company begins to actively participate in the most important fairs of the sector.
A consolidated company
With the beginning of the new millennium, Rioma takes an important step, translating its facilities to the outskirts of Montilla and with the construction of a singular and smart building that includes 4,500 m2 of facilities dedicated to design and offices and more than 25,000 m2 of
space dedicated to production and storage. With a staff made up of more than 50 workers, Rioma becomes a famous textile enterprise around the world, thanks to the enthusiastic dedication of a young, dynamic and multicultural human team.
Rioma distributes its products in more than 80 countries and is pioneer in Europe in the use of the conventional, digital and laser printing. Nowadays, the company has an avant-garde line of fabrics for upholstery and a daring collection of plain, Jacquard and very fashionable and modern printed patterns. As of today, we can find designs of Rioma in the world of fashion and home decoration, where an exclusive and personal line that makes possible the combination of different textures and the courageous combination of colours has been opened.
