On September 25, Rioma is joining the #SDGsForFlag campaign to show its support for the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
At Rioma, we believe that a commitment to sustainability is meaningful when it moves from words to action—that is, when it translates into concrete decisions.
About how we use our resources.
About how we care for people.
And also about how we contribute to the development of our region
Talking about the SDGs means talking about major global challenges, but also about business decisions.
Innovating to Produce Differently
SDG 9. Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure; SDG 7. Affordable and Clean Energy; SDG 12. Responsible Production and Consumption; SDG 13. Climate Action
At Rioma, we have embraced digital printing, a technology that significantly reduces water and energy consumption and minimizes CO₂ emissions compared to traditional processes. We have also incorporated more sustainable materials such as hemp, jute, linen, organic cotton, and recycled textiles.
And our commitment to more efficient production is also reflected in our facilities: the 63%of the energy consumption at our Montilla headquarters comes from solar energy, thanks to our investment in a photovoltaic plant.
These are not isolated actions. They are part of a process of continuous improvement that is also supported by management systems and certifications such as ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 14006 (eco-design), OEKO-TEX, and GOTS.
Sustainability also means talking about people
SDG 3. Good Health and Well-being · SDG 5. Gender Equality · SDG 8. Decent Work and Economic Growth
At Rioma, we are committed to local employment and the development of our rural community. We prioritize hiring people from Montilla and other nearby municipalities in Córdoba, helping to create job opportunities in our region and reducing unnecessary commutes.
We have a wonderful, dedicated team with experience and expertise:
- 36% of the workforce has been with the company for more than a decade
- 27% of the workforce has been with the company for more than twenty years.
- And let’s not forget about the generational shift, since 18% of workers are young (under 35).
We strive to ensure that work is compatible with personal and family life. 99% of our staff have permanent contracts, and we implement measures designed to promote work-life balance. Among these, the reduced workday on Fridays—ending at 3:00 p.m.—stands out, as does the intensive work schedule during the months of June, July, and August.
Since 2019, Rioma has had an Equality Plan, which it adopted voluntarily, even though it was not legally required to do so given its specific circumstances. This decision reflects our commitment to equal opportunity and to building a work environment based on respect and inclusion.
We also have protocols in place for preventing and addressing sexual harassment and harassment of LGBTI individuals, as well as a reporting channel that ensures a means of communication and action in the event of situations that violate these principles.
Today, women make up half of our workforce (47%) and hold management positions.
At Rioma,“no woman receives lower pay than a man for holding the same position or performing the same duties.”
Because building a sustainable company also means creating safe, equitable work environments where people can thrive.
Caring for our people is part of our commitment as a company and is reflected both in our compliance with established labor and worker protection obligations and in various initiatives designed to promote their health and well-being. We provide annual medical checkups, designated areas for lunch and rest breaks, as well as activities that foster camaraderie and team bonding.
And we understand that taking care of people also means providing opportunities for growth. That’s why we facilitate access to internal and external training, e-learning platforms, webinars, and programs in areas such as languages, international trade, business management, and technical specialization.

We know we can’t do it alone
SDG 17. Partnerships for the Goals
There are challenges—such as climate change, biodiversity loss, and the transition to a circular economy—that no company can tackle on its own.
For this reason, Rioma participates in initiatives aimed at transforming the textile sector and moving toward more circular models, such as its participation in RE-VISTE, and has also participated in the Sustainable Suppliers program launched by the United Nations.
Sharing knowledge, learning from others, and taking part in collective initiatives are essential to accelerating the changes the sector needs.
We want to give back to the community a portion of what we have received
SDGs 1, 2, 6, 11, 13, 14, 15, and 16
Our commitment extends beyond our business activities.
For more than two decades, Rioma has supported social and environmental projects through funding and mentorship via the Fundación Social Universal, the Fundación Somos Naturaleza, and the Fundación Savia.
These are projects that address issues as diverse as the fight against poverty and inequality, food security, nature conservation, climate action, sustainable entrepreneurship, and impact investing.
Because we understand that a company is also part of a community and that its responsibility extends beyond its own bottom line.
In short, the SDGs are designed to address the major economic, social, and environmental challenges of our time, but they only make sense when they are applied to the local context:
Fabrics that reduce waste and cut down on water and energy consumption.
People who can work close to home and balance their jobs with caring for their families.
Children who find the support they need to escape poverty.
A landscape and biodiversity that have found allies in their conservation.
At Rioma, we see the SDGs as an opportunity to ask ourselves what we can do better. And we realize that we still have a long way to go.
